Long weekend of working and now am feeling tired. But hey, money is good.

Civil partnership for gays now allowed by UK law

This makes UK join the club of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Canada (and some others I probably can't remember right off the bat) with this law. Welcome! I'm pleased you could join us. We're not a big club yet, but I have a feeling we will grow. Have some beer and join us at the bar.

I'm feeling much love for Britain these days. BBC and Doctor Who and gay marriages and football (now that the Norwegian season is over, I have to get my football fix elsewhere) and Pratchett and more. *huggles the British Isles*

In other news:
Rice defends US 'terror' politics (I'm keeping an eye on this issue, as I have a feeling it will grow.)
Norway has a new prince
Norwegian wolf population may be recovering

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In April I ruled Asscrackistan as a cruel and heartless dictator (-700 points). In October I stole [livejournal.com profile] myshka23's purse (-30 points). In June I gave [livejournal.com profile] armeniel a life-saving blood transfusion (50 points). In February I gave change to a homeless guy (19 points). Last week I bought porn for [livejournal.com profile] blizzard4526 (10 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-651 points). For Christmas I deserve a moldy sandwich!

Sincerely,
misscam

Bwhahaha. I guess Santa won't give me anything this year. How sad.

Aww, the baby prince is adorable!

And yay UK! Perhaps when the world doesn't go up in flames we might get some more rights for gays here.

Oh, it'll happen eventually, I have no doubt. The world is changing and so is the perception of sexuality. I have no doubt some will fight it tooth and nail, though.

Isn't he? But Future Queen Ingrid Alexandra is cuter still.

Britain seems to be having a fantastic year overall: in sports they won the Ashes (the shame!), and beat the All Blacks (*boggle*); they had a long, hot Summer; they put out some brilliant television (yay Doctor Who!), and now they've got Civil Partnership. And, despite Blair, they have one of the most sensible, healthy, and liberal governments in the world.

I like to think of it as karma. *pets Britain*

Karma for what, one wonders...

I still can't believe the Ashes. For shame, Australia, for shame!

For not being a bunch of right-wing fuckwits, obviously.

I know, I know, the shame is great. I was a sad little expat, that day. I hear it was a week before my grandma calmed down.

They had a Tory government for a looooong time, though.

Heh. I know Aussies who still foam at the mouth on that one. I suspect terrible revenge come the next test.

Um, how about France and its PACS? Or Germany? :)

It's called Lebenspartnerschaftsgesetz für gleichgeschlechtliche Lebensgemeinschaften here (or something along those lines in dreadful officialese *g*) and it doesn't feature adoption rights, but it is a civil partnership after all.

Oh, I read about them, but apparently, it's not quite in the same legal league as the others... There were some rights they didn't have. It's civil unions, but not quite 'partnerships', I read at BBC's. I guess it depends on your definitions. It's a recognition of gay relationship, at the very least.

Fair enough, each man or woman to his or her own.

Obviously the cold Northern air affects humans in a positive manner. NZ has LotR filmed there, so again with the positive.

The cold air must clear prejudices from the mind, or something. And add some new ones, no doubt.

I was happy to hear that UK approved gay marriage. Knowing my country, it will be another half-century, at least, before we approve something like that. Because America is helluva stupid. And scared that if we allow gay people to marry perhaps they'll, I don't know, "infect" the rest of us or something. *sigh*

We've had gay marriage for over a decade. I don't feel infected.

Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Canada...

What is it about us cold countries that makes us gay-marriage-equivalent friendly? Is it some electromagnetic phenomenon? In latitudes of 45 degrees and over, human brains function with less prejudice-producing static? The fabulousness of the Northern/Southern lights converts us all?

All interesting theories that should be researched, clearly. Maybe snow has a silencing effecting on asshatty gits too, making us more able to think for ourselves and reason that as long as you can ski, we don't care who you shag.
