Cath... (yes, so Cath is my fave character, don't worry the GSR speech is coming up soon…) and Warrick?!?!?!?!?!? Sorry if I'm 1 of few people who thinks this, but WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ALL A-FLIPPING-BOUT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's stupid, it's pointless, there's no chemistry what-so-ever, they get on well, of course, I mean they're like siblings aren't they? they get on like best friends, brother and sister. And, like in table stakes.... brother and sister relationship is just plain disgusting! And that's what I see in them, call me old fashion, but I'm a Christian, and (not meaning to offend anyone) but I cringe at the sight of a gay couple being affectionate, and i certainly cringe at the sight of a brother and sister being affectionate, so give me 1 good reason why I shouldn't cringe at the thought of Cath and Warrick being affectionate? It's just WRONG!(...)
I am, clearly, a Cath/Nick shipper, and when the time comes to put my case across to TPTB I will, and I’ll do a very good job of it at that, but for now… I just want people to justify what they see in cath/warrick, that isn’t 10 times better in cath/nick? Honestly!

Ever heard of a thing called posing! There is no chemistry between them 2, in other publicity photos, I've seen her backing away from him[Gary - Cam ed], and towards George! Besides, (and shoot me if I sound like Lady Heather in Slaves of Las Vegas here!) can you not see the way Gary's leaning in, really making something of it! And Marg's smiling through her teeth, she's married for pity's sake! AND This is NOT on the show, this was NOT planned! It's just a damn publicity stunt for crying out loud!

You'll have to ask Anais herself what she meant by her comment, I can't speak for her.
Furthermore, this is my LJ. When I've dicussed with babydoll - and admitedly, I have sometimes, as has some of your mods - I've been fairly restrained because there are some things I'd post in my LJ that I wouldn't on a messageboard and certainly not as a mod.
The thread over at Anais' LJ got way out of hand (just as well I was asleep, I think) and some of what was said there maybe shouldn't have been. Frustrated people will vent. I don't think it was as much about the Greg/Sara banner as it was about frustration built up over a while (I don't think I even commented on that banner much). Maybe fault is at both sides, who the smeg knows. Maybe YTDAW is a convinient target because it's big and do attract a lot of posters and we all have our different ideas of how we want it. Maybe your mods come across the wrong way to some posters (I know I got annoyed at a percieved patronizing tone to some of your posts, but that could be just me). We're human. It happens. It doesn't mean there might be a genuine matter for concern that should be dealt with - only it's hard to spot under all the extra baggage.
Enjoy your new thread, I guess. This whole thing makes me wonder if I did the right thing after all.

I'm from Florida, and hideously pale myself. I guess we should both refrain from flashing.

I can certainly understand the squick factor of a M/G avatar, but people can be grossed out by real life and fiction. Let's say the debate in our Ballistics section really was just over a banner, and not a larger, more pervasive issue. They have as much right to be squicked out by that than Anais or you do about a M/G banner. There are M/Gary and Billy/Jorja avatars as well. Do we need to make a rule prohibiting those, or would that be stepping on the posters' right to display them? See the conflict we have almost daily? The posters in the original debate didn't like something and decided to rant about it, in a thread created for ranting. Ranting about matters big or small, as evidenced by previous posts in that thread. Nothing was ever said until people who (judging by the LJs linked) seem a bit biased for Greg/Sara. Which is FINE, but people are permitted to complain about any of our policies ON OUR BOARD. Why isn't everyone afforded the same without being labeled as ridiculous and intolerant?

It's human nature, but if there's been one constant for three years, it's been that YTDAW has been a 'ship oriented board focused on Grissom and Sara. It was presented that way both on site and when mentioned on other boards. Trying to change that constant is futile.

I'm not talking about you, really, but I don't think I would have become so invested in all of this if the posts in response didn't scream "Look how clever we are; look how witty we are." I actually don't even intend that as a slight...people like Anais are extremely open and upfront about that. But don't talk to me about patronizing when this whole anti-fan wank movement is BASED on being more evolved than people who would get all riled up over a stupid banner. If I'm patronizing, it's because you have to be patronizing to not look like a ignorant patsy. As stupid and simple as it sounds, you have to fight fire with fire, especially when the majority of a large message board looks to you and your co-mods as the people who establish the guidelines for a site that took three years to build. That's the position we're in. You can't make everyone happy. You just can't.

Some people find me funny, some don't, but I will crack jokes about everything from Norwegian football to my own past (horrific) fanfic attempts. In the part of my country where I was born, you're raised with this. As for elitism... Maybe I am, by American standards, but I am Norwegian and I will act like one.

Eh? As I recall, I called myself silly over it the morning just after. To quote:

I never said I was better than anyone. Hey, I'm right there in the fandom with everyone else, which makes us all equal. I'm older than some of the YTDAW crowd and maybe that's part of the problem too, who knows, even if I have a large teenage contigent on my LJ flist.
But the reason why I mentioned the patronizing comment is that some of us older, bitter hags do not react well to that tone, even if no harm was meant. Yeah, you can't make everyone happy and in this case, some of us got very sour. There were rants, general frustration and unhappiness, as witnessed. But as someone told me, "I feel a lot less frustrated now that I got some of that out".

See, I can't speak for the others, but the post about the banner in the first place did not much bug me then and there. It was the reactions to it later on - and yes, the infamous "crap" remark. Secondly, because that Ballistics thread is placed where it is, I know I see it as where you rant about things you want the mods to perhaps do something about rather than rant in general, which I believe there is a Breakroom thread for. I also think there's a difference between what you rant about in your own little LJ - as mine - and on a messageboard, regardless of whether things are flocked or not.
And yeah, I'm not a Greg/Sara 'shipper. I admit I don't mind as much as others might, but I think I hang with the Greg-lving crowd mostly because he's partly Norwegian and I'm horribly patriotic even about fictional characters and because I help out with the odd translation, Norwegian customs, blah, blah.

Oh, she's been saying quite a lot of nasty stuff all over the web about some of her friends for daring to like C/W. I think in this case, her and I are just as bad. Am I petty for going after her? Hell yeah. Would she have great reason to slam back at me if she found this one? Hell yeah. But it will be happening *here*, in my LJ, where I may have as many petty fights as I want. And have had, with many a Bush-supporter and others who find me a not-so-subtle venting Norwegian.

I don't want to change that. (Again, I'm not some kind of leader or speak for anyone, this is just me.) Hell, I joined the board back when G/S was all it was. I still have great affection for YTDAW (and if you skim my LJ in general, you'll find I'm mostly positive and I have actually actively made people join it) for being what pushed me into CSI fandom, even if I left for a while. The problem is that you have - and all credit to you for it - decided to be a little broader than that. And as previous experiences have shown - hell, even one today - not everyone realises how G/S centered it is. I don't know if it's miscommunication or what, but obviously, some people do not see it. That is one source of conflict. The other is that since you have this broad approach, people who might like other things besides G/S or any of the other 'ship specifics on YTDAW will want to be able to swim around without getting jumped at for maybe not agree with everything (and the more shows YTDAW straddles, the more tricky this might get). You are in fact balancing a tightrope when doing this and there will be falls, probably on either side. And people will get peeved and frustrated and vent. There'll be more shit like this.
And believe me, while I as announced is not utterly happy with all that went down in this case, I do have a certain sympathy for how frustrating it must also be for you guys.
Also, that icon is adorable.
