Good grief - did you actually call the States to do this? I looked into this a while back and it was only US numbers available. Or have they added some European ones now?

Always good to hear someone's voice though! *grins*

You sound so Norwegian! I don't hear any kind of American accent in there but you do have an extremely pleasant voice. :)

Heh. Well, I keep being told I have by Americans I meet, but they do seem to think I'm from various states with a lot of Scandinavian decent, so there's that. It's probably my Norwegian tilt you're hearing - we raise and lower our voices very differently in Scandinavia compared to Americans. And it is fairly distinct to our region.

Thanks :)

Well done for getting gizmo to work. I'm considering using it as well, although it'd probably be for the lj as I'm on skype. I've been putting it off as I'm using UBUNTU. Although having alternative VOIP is always sensible.

Don't think about the needles too much. You're alot braver than I am donating blood.

It's not so much the pricking itself that bugs me, but afterwards, when it gets a bit sore and right at the spot where you bend your arms, since that's where the vein is.

Bloody needles.

lol, you do have a slight american accent. I would never do one of those, I tend to mumble since English is also my second language...Spanish being the first. It sounds like a big mess when I speak too fast :P

I hope you find your cat, my dog Lady use to do that...just run off to wherever she wanted, eventually she would show up scratching at the back door to be let back in.

Hee. You sound totally different to what I remember. Or else, perhaps I remember totally different to how you sound. ;)

Have to say, I didn't hear the American accent with that; I think living in Australia must've killed it a bit. I wonder if you sound a bit Australian now? I can't tell, of course, because I am Australian. Someone neutral might have to decide. ;)

Mostly now you sound like I expected you to sound the first time we chatted way back years ago before you even came to Oz. So the accent is mostly Norwegian.

What is this Gizmo thing of which you speak? I'll have to do a phone post myself eventually; I tried once, and it did not want to work, so I gave up before I ended up with a huge phone bill full of pointless calls to LJ in California.

I am doing your beta now, so I shall email it when I'm done. Then I am going to sleep. Work takes up a lot of time, don't it?

Date: 2006-08-22 03:46 pm (UTC)

Can't trust your memory, you know. But then, that was years ago, and I've been living in Norway since, so I've probably drifted more back towards Norwegian than when I was staying in Australia.

Gizmo. You can call free to other Gizmo users, like me. And to LJ's Gizmo phone post service.

Work certainly does. Boo on it.

Congrats on making the voice-post thingy work. I've always been tempted to try it, but would probably just end up rambling nonsensically.

Good luck with the blood-donation. I've a life long phobia of needles, probably because I underwent a lot of medical tests when I was very young and got all freaked out cuz I didn't know what was going on.

I also tend to pass out quite easily (hence all the medical tests when I was younger), so even standard blood draws at physicals turn into half hour waits to see if I'm gonna drop. I've been reccommended not to give blood unless it's for a loved one, so as not to increase any risk of fainting--I've gotten several concussions, lacerations, and abrasions, not to mention many wounds to my pride, from fainting.

Although, considering the fact you're going to give blood this afternoon, I probably shouldn't be ranting on about losing consciousness. I'm sure you'll be fine. Enjoy the free juice and cookies! I'm a whore for free food.

You have a lovely voice, by the way. Thanks for speaking a bit of Norwegian--it was nice to hear some again, even if I don't understand a word of it. Reminded me of my family.

Have a great day yourself!

Ouch. I think I've passed out like twice in my whole life, so it's not exactly a common occurance with me. Certainly didn't do it this time. It's really not that bad to give blood - your arm feels a bit sore after the needle afterwards, is the main thing. And if you try to exercise, then you do notice. Hoo yeah. But considering it does save lives, it's a minor bother ever three months.

Thanks - and the weather picked up a bit for a while, before it started to rain again. Go figure.

This is fascinating! I loved listening to you. And, believe it or not, the closest I can come to 'identifying' your accent in English is that you sound faintly Irish. Yes, seriously! I didn't hear any American at all, and I don't think I've ever heard a Norwegian speaking English before, but I could definitely 'hear' Irish.

Giving blood - good for you! I hate needles too, plus I have a tendency towards slight anaemia, so giving blood tends to make me almost pass out. ;) So ever since they stopped giving local anaesthetics I haven't donated. Got up to the medal for twelve donations before that happened, though.

You joining us for the Rose ficathon? ;)

Irish? That's a first. I suppose Gaelic and Norse have had some influence on each other with the raiding and trading and what-not of old days, though.

I donated three years in Australia and have for a year and a half in Norway, so I've gotten up to an okay number now, I think. They don't give medals though - but you do get gifts each time.

Possibly. If I can think of an okay challenge and can conquer my fear of getting a gen challenge myself again. But there wasn't any rush on signing up yet, I saw. Until end of the month or some such, wasn't it?

I am such a hopeless little ship writer.

a voice post- very nifty. your voice is so pleasant and cordial, friendly. i can hear a trace of an american accent, and i love the norwegian tilt. it's so interesting how different languages/locations lower and raise their voices at different times as they speak. i wish i was fluent in another language. i took french for years, and while i was probably mediocre at best, i suspect that i did fairly well only because my teacher liked me and took pity on me. oh well.

and good for you for donating blood! i tried to give blood once...didn't go so well. they got very little blood from me (they gave me the smallest bag, too); my veins are too small. the nurse assured me that i'm still eligible to donate but that next time,i should start drinking plenty of water 2 to 3 days ahead of time...

anyway, i'm sure you don't care for my nonsense ramblings. thanks for sharing your lovely voice! have a great day and happy donating :o)

Date: 2006-08-22 06:23 pm (UTC)

I speak French as well ;) But yeah, being fluent in another language is very handy, as well as giving you new perspectives on your own as well. You become more aware of the particulars, in a sense.

Awww. Well, at least you gave it a shot. My veins are apparently very nice and large, because every new nurse I've had drain my blood has complimented me on them. Hah.

No more nonsense than me ;)
