Meanwhile, at work...
Sep. 12th, 2006 10:57 amSo here I am, stuck at work till five, with basically nothing to do until 15.30. Eight hours at work to do an hour and a half of actual work. Huh. But ah well, that's how they wanted it and that's what they pay for. I could write, but I'm feeling blah about it. Think I've written too much at work of late and thus feel somewhat tired of it. What I want to do is go home and play Baldur's Gate II some more. I've downloaded the Kivan mod and am having fun with it and the general slaughter of all enemies. Huzzah!
Thus, this may be a long, rambling, disjointed post. Sorry.
Moose helps to catch thieves, dies in the process
Poor crime-fighting moose. Sniff.
So, yesterday was the five year on from infamous 9/11, and I really had nothing much to say. There comes a point, I feel, where silence in respect for the dead is really all that is needed for a while. (As time passes, it might be good to consider again, as sometimes do with historical events.) Because so much have been said and so much have been tried to be exploit with 9/11 the mere word just makes me sigh. Speeches like this do nothing to help. Honour the dead, remember the many who have died forgotten in other acts of human cruelty that were no less cruel but a whole less spectacular and live your life as kindly as you can seem to me as good a tribute as any other.
Veronica Mars fandom wanks
As one can see, inane ship names are not restricted to just one fandom. Also, I was very happy to spot the thread on the second page with people who didn't actually like the show. Here I thought I was all alone. Everyone told me I would love it and then I watched it and very much didn't. I felt all heathen and wrong. (I'm trying very hard with Battlestar Galactica so far, but it's not quite gripping me. Eh well, I was told season one is a bit shite. On the other hand, I think we can safely say Grey's Anatomy is addicting me a bit. Bailey is made of win. Might stay away from fandom, though. CSI and Who fandom makes me go bonkers enough as it is.)
People on my flist wanks
Naughty people.
Right, so bored at work. Anyone want to comment-chat a bit? Pick your topic. I am that bored.
In other news:

Be glad you are only doing that for today. I think I own the very existence of my LJ to that.
Quisling
From what I can see it would be much better if he was just a writer instead of a politician from the beginning?

Ouch. I Think I'd go a little insane. How do you remain sane and don't randomly mug your boss for work?
Quisling - he wasn't actually that brilliant a writer as he saw himself, but it still might've brought him less disappointments than what he did end up doing. It did not go well for Quisling at all, certainly.

Because, y'know, 47,000 dead Iraqi civilians is civilised. Or maybe he doesn't worry about creating more terrorists with his foreign policy because he plans on killing everyone who isn't 'on his side'?
On a lighter note, Grey's Anatomy is all kinds of goodness, isn't it? I ♥ Cristina.

So, KB doesn't like Logan/Veronica ( I simply refuse to call it LoVe. That's too horrid!Ship names, hurgh.). Too bad, but I'm not tearing my hair out. Not yet.
As usual, shipping is not the main reason why I watch a TV show. The snark, witty dialogue and good mystery is what keeps me going in the VM fandom. (And that hottie known as Jason Dohring. :P)
On to more serious topics.
I agree with you on the 9/11 issue. It's probably because I'm European, but I wish that more people had the guts to speak about the remember the many who have died forgotten in other acts of human cruelty that were no less cruel but a whole less spectacular and live aspect of it all, as you did.

Date: 2006-09-12 11:40 am (UTC)LoVe is right up there with Drose and Grillows, if you ask me. Ugh. Perhaps even more so, as even I have gathered that pairing is not exactly high on the TWUWUB.
See, I watched and Dohring did nada for me. I like the biker... what's his name... black, hates on Logan? He was okay.
European might be a part of it - but I think everyone has a tendency to remember the spectacular more. Just how it is. Which is why the tsunami in Asia got a lot more aid than the earthquake in Pakistan, even though in terms of suffering, the latter might've been worse. But of course here, we have a different perspective on 9/11. Terrorism has been around Europe a while, after all.

The fuck, man? I'm more on the side of the banned dude: sure, he was a little too sarcastic for his own good, but she (and her cronies) reply with "OMG how DARE you comment on this journal with a differing opinion, you sexist WHORE?!" Similar comments of "dude, the anger is righteous, but it ain't helping much," are met with "FUCKWIT IDIOT MORON TOOL OF THE OPPRESSOR YOU ARE THE REASON WHY ALL WOMEN ARE RAPED!!!" And comments of "Um, generalising much?" are met with "Oh, well look who's decided to be clever. Ooh, look at me, I have a different opinion. Ooh, I don't live in fear. Well, that's because you don't read the statistics and quake with unending fear and vitriol like you should!!!"
The phrase, "Bitch, please," has never seemed more appropriate or more futile.

LoVe as the ship name for Logan/Veronica is hysterical for one reason: Logan and Veronica do not like each other very much. Now, as I do watch the show (although I had...major issues with S2), that relationship is far more interesting than the Veronica/Duncan stuff, I would never think of Logan/Veronica as an 'ah, romance' sort of relationship.
And look, I'm using a L/V icon. Because they're deliciously fucked up. Sometimes that's all I need to entertain myself.
Battlestar Galatica should own my soul but I couldn't take the soul-crushing darkness. Which makes my close friends laugh, considering I'm usually all about that. But BG is like really depressing.

Date: 2006-09-12 02:43 pm (UTC)Re 9/11, it's a refreshing change to see such sanity. I've hardly dared look at newspaper coverage even here in Canada, because of proximity to the US. No disrespect whatsoever to those who lost friends and family, but that's what it should be about: remembering those who died, not scoring cheap political points and pursuing an agenda that's brought only devastation to parts of the world and stirred up even more resentment against the West.
Writing... it'll come when you're ready for it. And it'll be good :)

Date: 2006-09-13 09:36 am (UTC)Yes, quite. Linking 9/11 with Iraq gives me the heevies. Tyrant Saddam was, but he was a secular and not particulary religious fanatical one. Friends with the likes of bin Laden he was not. Enemies of your enemy isn't always your friend and all.
Hah. We'll see.
