Flist, I need your help
May. 25th, 2008 01:54 pmSo, I am like the slowest slowpoke in picking up new stuff, but I have finally got a del.icio.us account and it really is as smashing as you all told me to use.
But! I have moved computers and lost so many of my links and gotten new fandoms and to put it bluntly, I need links. I feel so sadly short on them.
Rec me fic! Doesn't matter if I've read it before, I've probably lost the link. You should have some idea what I like - character stuff, ship stuff, not the fluffiest kind. Doctor Who, Batttlestar Galactica, CSI (somewhat), bit of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, various other things you know I like. Rec me your own stuff too! Modesty is for Norwegians.
Please, please, please...? I offer cyber-adoration for all.
Also, have sent new fic to beta. You can blame that one on
falena84 as well. She's on a roll of challenging me lately, it seems.
In the news:
Web users more 'selfish' now.
Hairdresser loses dead fly case.
Further cracking of the Arctic ice.
Clashes in Naples over garbage.
Strike hits Norway.

Date: 2008-05-25 12:31 pm (UTC)I did post quite a few BSG recs for Saz last night .
And if you look in my memories I have loads of fic saved there, neatly classified and everything. Plus, we share many fandoms and you know our fic tastes are compatible, at least.
I'm more than willing to take the blame when you commit fic. :P

Date: 2008-05-25 12:53 pm (UTC)Do share if you find something good (I'm kinda desperate for Helo/Sharon fic). I bookmarked your delicious page but knowing me I'll forget to go check it very soon.
I distinctly remember you telling me you had five fic ideas to develop, so it's not like you need help in the inspiration department.
But I can take out the whip and be very intimidating (despite the fact that I'm tiny and not at all scary-looking. And too easily defeated by tickling), if working under pressure is your kind of thing.

Date: 2008-05-25 01:03 pm (UTC)Oh, I always have ideas. Problem with me is to get me to work on them. Feeling like I'm doing an assignment seems to help at times, or just general interest. I'm easily lazy, oh yes.

Date: 2008-05-25 01:06 pm (UTC)And so is most of fandom.
Woes.
I hate it when I'm not hugely into the most popular pairing.
Thank God A/R seems to be the second most prolific pairing.
It'll be my pleasure to harass you, no worries. ;)

Date: 2008-05-25 01:16 pm (UTC)A/R seems to have quite the surge, yeah. From all accounts, the show seems to be actively feeding it, which just means lots more fic. Yay!
I was thinking about doing a Helo/Sharon & Adama/Roslin one as a sort of take on what love is - human love, Cylon love, life as love, blah blah. But it's very vague in my head still.

Date: 2008-05-25 01:22 pm (UTC)Ayer's rock, probablyOkay, bad joke, I know). It's good to ship canonically, sometimes, oh yeah.
I like your vague ideas. Unvague them stat.
Plus, it totally sounds right up your alley. Your DW romance's strongest suit is the exploration of what it means to love for an alien/humans.

Date: 2008-05-25 01:32 pm (UTC)And also I just wonder why I always get turned on by the dysfunctional ships. Issues, much?

Date: 2008-05-25 01:33 pm (UTC)It is! But the wait for new episodes is kinda maddening then, because new episodes can bring new aspects to your ship all the time. Need more episodes!
Unvaguing is hard :P But the idea was sort of having Hera as the link - last episode revealed she too has those dreams Athena and Laura had, so I thought maybe having a fic with Hera as a sort of 'dreamwalker', actually projecting into what they're dreaming and take it from there with my usual ways. I wrote a tiny bit of that in the last fic, with Hera dreaming of Earth and I liked the idea.
Eh well, we'll see.

Date: 2008-05-25 01:28 pm (UTC)Just that it sucks that I have to be contrary and go for the pairing neither of the ppl who got me hooked on this damned crack fandom are into. I mean who am I meant to squee with?
I know I could go make new friends, but I don't like making new friends. I am antisocial.

DW gen can be awesome, so I'll poke through that.

Date: 2008-05-25 02:27 pm (UTC)I've just gone through my BSG recs again -- maybe those Laura-centric stories might interest you, too:
-- Unanswered
-- Five Deaths
-- The Kindly Ones
And there's also a very good Cain-centric genfic (written before "Razor", though) and a very chilling
post-S3 Tigh AU.
Of the DW recs in my memories, you should definitely try the cross-over with "Gone with the Wind". No, really.

Date: 2008-05-25 02:57 pm (UTC)These fics will all be read and enjoyed, oh yes. When I have time, which may not be til after I'm dead, but oh well. Thankyou!

Providence. Not all the monsters in the TARDIS are locked safely in the attic.
With Her Own Wings. Martha was once the Doctor's maid. Now the Doctor seems to be Martha's secretary.
Dead Worlds. The Doctor takes Lucy Saxon onboard the TARDIS to travel with him, and Lucy finds that one mad alien is much like another.
Vexed To Nightmare By A Rocking Cradle. Rose was telling the truth. But she was also lying.
And to take a break from all the Whofic, The Machine That Changed the World from LOTR.
