Sure, it was age-appropriate people, but how often do you get to see a love story like that for that age-group, up front and center in the end? They, and the Agathons in minor part, were the love stories the show carried to the end.
Part of my love for Bill is what you've touched on - layers. He's got layers and complications and he feels like a real character, not just a representation. Gravity is a good word for what he has, too. It's a pull on people.
I love his little moment in Sine Qua Non, when Lee asks him why he's going to take a raptor out alone, and he replies 'because I can't live without her' and the look he gives Lee slays me a little. Because it's self-aware that sounds cliche and silly and he's going to do it anyway.
I think after Laura's turn in politics, Bill must have been (even as an ass) so lovely non-political. He is what he is. They really match up and accept each other in ways that curl my toes a little.
Angry shaving is awesome. So is having a joint in sickbay. Lol, Mom and Dad.
