It certainly does make a difference if one has been stomped on before and if one hasn't. I'm not ashamed about the way America initially reacted to 9/11, that's how we should have (it's afterward that's got my dander up). But it's nice to see that this terrorist attack on London hasn't managed the intended effect of, oh, terror.

9/11 was the first time for the US, so I don't really think you have anything to be ashamed us in those first reactions. But the British certainly has experience - I stand by my Hitler quote. Shut up, al-Qaeda.

Thanks for this link! Sometimes a bit of lightheartedness in the face of disaster (i.e. keeping a stiff upper lip, drinking tea and trying to laugh the whole thing off with British humor) may not be the worst thing.

I'm still a little upset, though -- strangely enough, this terrorist attack really affected more than any other. Maybe it's not only because I, too, am an Anglophile but I lived there for more than half a year, and I went to London for the last time less than a month ago. I could even remember the names of those tube stations. Suddenly, everything was so ... real. God, I'm really sorry for all the Londoners.
