A Lot of Bugger and Some Delicious Doctor
Oct. 1st, 2005 10:55 pmBali again.
Oh, bugger. Bugger, bugger, bugger. Fuck.
No wonder we all get so involved in our little distractions. It keeps us from screaming too much when the world sucks.
Speaking of little distractions... I'm vaguely writing Doctor Who fic. This is so not good. I feel myself wandering towards a new little obsession. Whoops. And I have so many CSI projects running and now I wanna write the delicious Doctor instead. And almost-Canon threesome. And Daleks.
Did I mention I'm fickle and get distracted by new shinies?
I need Doctor Who chat friends. And more pretties. And the DVD set when it comes out.
When you see this on your flist, quote yourself
"Knowing something can happen is not quite the same as being prepared for it. (...)
I fear for Australia. I fear for Norway. I fear that this new fear will inhabit us all for a long, long time and slowly change us.
One day we might think it has always been this way. Perhaps it has. Perhaps we have always been scared, but now our fears are realised."
Pick someone on my f-list that you know or you've seen around and comment here with something you like about them. It can be everything from admiring their username to an entire essay on how great they are spilled over my journal comments. When you've done this, post this meme into your own journal.

Date: 2005-10-04 10:21 am (UTC)I don't mind Hugh Grant these days, I find. Even enjoyed him in some movies and he's a hoot on the commentary tracks.

Date: 2005-10-04 11:09 am (UTC)And I did like Hugh Grant quite a lot in Bridget Jones's Diary, acting all over-the-top, deliberately making fun of himself and his public image etc. But I still want to kick him out of Sense and Sensibility. Shoo!

BJD is a rather fab movie - mmm, Colin Firth - and I haven't actually seen S&S, so no opinion on that one. Hated "9 Months", though.

Sense and Sensibility, however, is really a nice adaptation, apart from the Hugh Grant factor, of course. First of all, he simply can't keep up with the rest of the male cast, i.e. talented and sexy (well, according to my taste, at least *g*) actors like Alan Rickman and Greg Wise. Admittedly, his character is supposed to be friendly, shy, awkward and not dashing at all, but then he goes on to play himself as usual instead of giving the guy a little more depth. *sigh*
Okay, I think I'd better stop bashing poor Hugh Grant now. Still -- I'd prefer Colin Firth in a reindeer jumper any day. ;)

Wasn't S&S an early movie for Hugh? I'm sure he's learned since then.

Date: 2005-10-04 04:48 pm (UTC)Well, you're right; I have to give him some credit. According to the omniscient IMDB, Sense and Sensibility was filmed in 1995, the same year as Nine Months.
And another interesting tidbit about Hugh Grant: In the 1996 Comic Relief charity special Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death, he was the (un-canonical) 12th doctor (with Rowan Atkinson, Richard E. Grant and Jim "Bridget's Dad" Broadbent being numbers 9, 10, and 11 --and a female number 13).
Oh, and Julia "Lydia Bennet" Sawalha apparently was the doctor's assistant/companion/fiancée back then. But the romance seems to have been taken as seriously as the rest of this show, at least judging from the nice quote I found:
"Without even knowing I was looking, I have found a woman I love. A woman more fascinating than all my travels through time and space. A girl more exciting than an escape up a ventilation shaft."
*g*

Wow, ten years since I suffered my way through "Nine Months". Impressive how time flies.
