Remember Fred Phelps and his lot, people? I'm sure you do. So you already know your blood pressure is about to rise, I'm sure. (Got link from [livejournal.com profile] aelie_baby. Thanks.)

The controversial anti-homosexual Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., has canceled its plans to stage a protest at the funerals of the five Amish girls executed in their Pennsylvania school, a church official said Wednesday.
Shirley Phelps-Roper, the daughter of church's pastor, told FOXNews.com the group canceled the protests in exchange for an hour of radio time Thursday on syndicated talk-show host Mike Gallagher's radio program.

Oh SWIMMINGLY. So, for this lot of chaaaaaaarming people not to behave like batshit pond-scum with the tact and grace of bee-stung ogres, they get to spew their hateful shit for an hour on some US national radio?

I demand an hour on that show for homosexuals, Swedes, Amish, soldiers and anyone else the "church" might have insulted so they can talk about what a small dick Fred Phelps has and what his obsession with semen might entail nudge nudge wink wink.

Fair's fair, after all.

God: Bwahahaha. You lose. *smites*

...And I, in turn, am sorry because this made me snort soda out my nose laughing.

LOL. Well, it makes sense - Satan betrayed God; why would God give him Hell to rule over? (It's my Dantean influence; Dante = FTW. *g*)

Fred: But...but...but!

God: *snickers* Seriously. You lose.

Fred: You're supposed to be vengeful!

God: Dude, that's so B.C. Get with the program. *rolleyes*

Most people seem to. *grin* Thanks.

Fred: Wait, where are all the gay people?

God: Oh, they're up in heaven.

Fred: WHAT?

God: Yeah, I figured they'd been persecuted enough. Deserved a little something-something for putting up with a miscommunication of a big sort.

Fred: But Leviticus--

God: Exactly. Have you ever actually read that book?

Fred: Yes, I have! *is smote*

God: You can't lie to me Fred!

Fred: I'm sorry! *is smote*

God: Bwahahaha. Oh, I guess I am a vengeful god.

I would worship this God A LOT. Bwhahaha. And build shrines.

I think S/He'd like that, but the shine bit would be idol worshipping. *gasp*

It could be where people gathered to practice snark in His/Her name?

I'm sorry. I'm an atheist. I am very new to the worshipping. Forgive my beginner's mistakes, awestruck as I was by the mighty smack-down.

That's not a bad idea. The Church of Latter-Day Cynics. I like it.

...And you lost me in the second part of that comment. *blush* I knew you were atheist; I'm honestly not surprised. Ah well. Atheists have more fun anyways.

It sure would be a more worthy church than Phelps's little hateful gathering.

One of these days, I'll get me that 'Atheist Social Democrat' icon and flash it until everyone's sick of it. But yes, an European atheist isn't exactly terribly rare. Though I suppose I shouldn't really claim I'm new to religion - I've gone to Sunday school and Bible study and sometimes wear a little Buddha because Buddha was awesome. I should know idol worshiping is teh bad and Moses got all enraged over it. Must be my Viking genes that made me forget. Oops.

And we wouldn't even ask for donations; we could meet by a tree in a park or something.

Oops indeed. I never got the "no idols" thing. Why not? God could be decorated symbolically like we do. It's actually pretty tight. And the idols are sanctified because they have gold and jewels buried underneath. It's part of the big hate between Hindus and Muslims; when Muslim raiders came to India and realized that there were riches beneath the "pagan" idols, they ransacked temples and destroyed the icons to get to them. *shrug* I'm sure we've demolished a mosque or two, so I'm not really saying anything that's really new.

*sigh* We just all have to agree to disagree.

And have muffins. Self-baked.

Religion: New ways to be hateful to each other since the ADs. I shouldn't speak - Vikings used to plunder the converts with much maiming and killing. It wasn't holy to them, it was just riches. Same for the muslims robbing Hindu idols, I guess. One's many holy symbol is another one's meal ticket.

You ask me, we have it all wrong in one way or another. Human mind can't eevn fully grasp atoms, how the heck could we manage to understand a potential creator? We make up the best theories we can with the current available information and just limp from there, basically.

And maybe do a maypole dance?

*sigh* Religion is just an excuse.

You know what movie I think you'd like? Dogma.

Naked in the rain? With David Tennant?

Heh. I haven't seen, but I've people say I should watch it and others say it is like having a painful lobotomy. Hate it or love it, I guess.

I do adore Good Omens and hope for a movie version. Just half of the awesomeness of the book and I'll be ever so happy.

Sounds like a plan!

I liked it. I mean, I'm not Bible-thumping hardcore, but knowing what I do of Christianity, I thought it was nicely done, and brought up a few points in the name of satire, which I always encourage. It's not too deep but I say it's worth a watch.

I've heard that's good. Maybe I should pick it up. :D

You should definitely read Good Omens. I was always told it was good and saw the plot and was sure it couldn't be to my liking. My stupidity still hurts to this day.

Will-do then. I'll add it to my queue, behind the thirteen other books I have to read. *g*
