The controversial anti-homosexual Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., has canceled its plans to stage a protest at the funerals of the five Amish girls executed in their Pennsylvania school, a church official said Wednesday.
Shirley Phelps-Roper, the daughter of church's pastor, told FOXNews.com the group canceled the protests in exchange for an hour of radio time Thursday on syndicated talk-show host Mike Gallagher's radio program.

I am physically ill. As a believer and a Baptist no less (which makes me cringe to admit at the moment) I am just... almost beyond words. If any of the people in question have ever actually taken the time to read a Bible, much less try and process what one says, I'd be shocked. Because what they are doing is so far from Christian that it's sick. Sick and twisted and disgusting beyond anything that could ever be acceptable.

I don't know who Mike Gallagher is that's given up this hour of radio time to these nutcases, but I hope he's made it clear exactly when they are going to spew their vitriol on air.

That way, everybody can change their radios to something else for that hour or turn them off completely, and Phelps' insanity will be heard by no one. Yeah, so I asked Mum about that mess up in Kansas. And I told her about how they said the tsunami was to punish Sweden. She agreed with me that it was ridiculous to blame them for that... then went on a 15 minute spiel on how the Swedes are a godless people and are so proud of it - like it was a bad thing. *facepalm*

And as for the national radio, I read somewhere that the guy that gave them an hour of his show said it was repulsive to him, but he'd rather they were spending that hour on his show than protesting at the funerals. So I can't really blame him for that. But that's me.

You'll forgive me if I give a finger heartily in her direction. Scandinavia is much hated by conservatives in America, see. Because we're peaceful and quiet and socialist and somehow manage to be economically sucessful too, which is a bit of a bugger if you consider capitalism the only good way. And we've legalized gay marriage without our socities falling apart. Clearly all great crimes. I was ever so charmed when one American told me legalizing gay marriage had turned all Scandinavian women into bed-hopping hos who cared more about their own pleasure than their kids. And also, we were all turning into pet-raping lots.

Just warms my heart, it does.

In reality, a majority of Scandinavians believe in God. (Though I don't, as you've gathered. But 88% of Norwegians are a member of our state church, so I do not represent any majority.) It's just here, we consider religion a private matter. We don't need to wave it around like a pom-pom. In the US, religion is much more public, but since when is it a crime to be different to America?
