Remember Fred Phelps and his lot, people? I'm sure you do. So you already know your blood pressure is about to rise, I'm sure. (Got link from [livejournal.com profile] aelie_baby. Thanks.)

The controversial anti-homosexual Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., has canceled its plans to stage a protest at the funerals of the five Amish girls executed in their Pennsylvania school, a church official said Wednesday.
Shirley Phelps-Roper, the daughter of church's pastor, told FOXNews.com the group canceled the protests in exchange for an hour of radio time Thursday on syndicated talk-show host Mike Gallagher's radio program.

Oh SWIMMINGLY. So, for this lot of chaaaaaaarming people not to behave like batshit pond-scum with the tact and grace of bee-stung ogres, they get to spew their hateful shit for an hour on some US national radio?

I demand an hour on that show for homosexuals, Swedes, Amish, soldiers and anyone else the "church" might have insulted so they can talk about what a small dick Fred Phelps has and what his obsession with semen might entail nudge nudge wink wink.

Fair's fair, after all.

Yes, he did

Mike made it very clear what the ground rules were at the top of the segment with those sisters. I lasted about five sentences before I popped in a cd.

You know what's astounding? The Amish forgave the killer and his family. And, if those creepo phoney Baptists had actually disrupted their daughters' funerals, the Amish would have forgiven them, too. There's the best and worst of American Christianity for you, right their in one easy-to-swallow tableau.

That's what struck me--what a contrast between a group that calls itself Christian but acts like hell, and a group that truly imitates Christ. Guess which I'd rather join?

I remember after 9/11, the mosque in Brisbane was torched. The imam and the others there forgave the guy did it. Sometimes the most graceful and kind of us are those with seemingly least reason to.

The Amish might've forgiven Phelps if he had his family had turned up, but I still wouldn't wish him on my worst enemy. Or anyone's radiotime.
